The shambles that was the early time of year is behind us . I now have 13 becoming sizing plants , including three graft plants I circumstantially pick up from Suttons to taste out . The latest task has been to potbelly all the plants on to their terminal 9L spate and to set those up in their final develop positions in the nursery . I decide in the ending that I would go to the trouble of lay out up the reservoir tearing system I first triedlast class . That ’s a rather marvellous name for a few credit card tubs and a few planks , but it seemed to work . The introductory idea is to use capillary matting to provide the plant with water on a coherent basis . The roughly triangular pieces of matting are poked through muddle in the plank , far enough so that they reaches the bottom of the tubs which I have filled with water system .

These are then poked in routine through the tail end of the 9L pots I ’m using .

The matting needs to wall the rootball but otherwise the appendage of transplanting is the same as normal .

If the watering arrangement mold the way I bear , these plants should rise on well in the protected environment of the greenhouse . I require to supply some funding for them , but there is n’t enough clearance for long canes . I ’ve make up one’s mind alternatively to apply string , following the roofline . I ’ll be able to wander the plants around the string and they ’ll be able to maturate all the manner up to the apex of the roof .

The plants all seem quite at home in their new accommodation , I am bright of getting a comely craw , and most importantly of avoiding the dread blight . No fruit has set , but there are some flowers , so the house are good .

free-base on my experience last year , a full tub of water hold up about 4 week , plenitude of prison term to deal for holiday and forgetful gardener .

I ’ll be back with another update in a few weeks , hopefully involving yield !
