When it comes to gardening, there is always room for more. More plants to add and more plant photos to admire.
Hi GPODers ! !
If you ’ve been followingGarden picture of the Dayfor a while now , you ’re intimate with Lee and his colorful garden in the Mohawk Valley of New York . Just last month Lee shared some peak - season photos tohelp us chase off the winter blue , but there are a multitude of post to explore that highlight Lee ’s excogitation and sempiternal creative thinking ( Lee ’s Backyard Escape , Lee ’s Garden Through the Eyes of an Ant , Lee ’s Tulips in Mohawk Valley , Early Spring Blooms from the Mohawk Valley , etc . ) Today ’s submission is fun , poetic , and inspiring as ever .
The subject championship is two - crease : first of all , if you have room for more bloom photos in your future daily mailings , I have some .

Secondly , the subject title can be addressing other agriculturist as well : “ If you have elbow room for more , then DO IT . ” Do n’t EVER imagine you ’re done — for the day , yes — but not for future years .
We were given our turf for a cause . Grass and lawn are overnice — really overnice . It offers space to walk and meander , it provides space for refreshment , for gather and an chance for our bare feet to make direct inter-group communication with the earth . I am blessed with that .
However , one ’s greensward begs for color , begs for a more thickly settled “ family line ” . The compounding , and we all know it ; is a balance of lawn , gardens , bush , trees , President Bush , vines , natural materials and our favorite man - made material — some painted , some color with their own innate patina ( even oxidizing / rusting metallic element ( e.g. Sally ’s “ backside ” ) . Obviously , the combination are interminable .

The connected photos do n’t really focalise on my above judgment but just by default , I guess I caught some of what I was talking about . And actually , my initial and only intention was to make use of some wintertime prison term here and go across my running thoughts along to others . No special “ favorite ” motion picture — just some different views within the backyard , all from the “ back 100 ” behind the pack of cards and pond .
To all growers , once again—”If you have room for more … …… .. No excuses .
PS : I just HAD to admit a photo of a “ sun dog ” that my wife and I caught when we were out tug with the top off the Vette on Father ’s Day . If one is fortunate to beguile one , consider one ’s self prosperous because they are not all that common . Dad ’s way of say , “ Hi ” from above …

pacification from Lee in the Mohawk Valley of central NYS
Lee ’s garden photos exemplify the persuasion that “ perspective is everything . ” Through all the different point in time of views we ’re treated to , we get unexampled experience and idea from Lee ’s plantings . They also highlight another aspect of Lee ’s boost to create more : If you think your space or garden is too limited , try looking at things from a unlike view . A new POV might open up your eye to something that has been missing , or give you the realisation that there has been “ more ” to your garden that you have n’t been acknowledge .
Of of course , when I think of “ more ” in Lee ’s garden , the first thing that comes to mind if more color ! Lee always shares an absolutely gorgeous array of freehanded blooms in a stunning display of colors . In this sketch , I ca n’t get enough of all that pink !

“ More ” also apply to leaving room for something a little more alone or strange . Lee has an telling collecting of lily and daylily , but the Apricot Fudge lily ( Lilium‘Apricot Fudge ’ , Zones 3–8 ) is one that develop the cast and absolutely deserve infinite in the garden .
“ More ” apparently does n’t just apply to plant either . Where plants must be leave out for whatever cause , there is always an opportunity for more interest group in other forms . This pocket-size path cutting through dense flower bed could have been left as a minuscule strip of turf , but a short stone path adds so much more graphic symbol .
If I had to pick , my pet kind of “ more ” is more fun , and it ’s clear-cut that Lee has more fun than I can even imagine in his garden . Wondering what I mean ? depend no further than the deed he collapse this photo : “ Sally ’s Ham with Blooms ” 😄 For another keen picture of Sally , check outEarly Spring peak from the Mohawk Valley .

As Lee explained above , he may not have intend to represent his reflection in the photo portion out , but life has a way of imitate artistic production even when not intended . From the frame of a beautiful lily — potentially ‘ Leslie Woodriff ’ ( L.‘Leslie Woodriff ’ , Zones 5–8)—layers and layers of more garden pastime can be determine .
A cracking plant combination of some bright honeysuckle bloom and a lush ocean of ostrich fern ( Matteuccia struthiopteris , zone 3–7 ) . Or , as Lee titled it , which gave me a good chortle , “ Honeysuckle with Ostriches . ”
Nothing ca n’t be improved with a little industrial plant lifetime and color ! A basic roofline provides an important purpose , but does n’t specially revel the sense . With the help of a industrial plant at the ripe height , like this Maximilian ’s helianthus ( Helianthus maximiliani , Zones 3–9 ) , Lee is able to add way more color and interest .

While the garden is ever - evolving ( the blank space before you was once vegetable garden , and now reimagined into something totally fresh ) , you could see understandably the concerted effort to “ balance of lawn , gardens , shrubs , tree , George Bush , vine , natural materials and our favorite man - made material , ” as Lee expressed in the introduction .
Another stellar color combination of orange poppy — maybe the motley ‘ Harvest Moon ’ ( Papaverorientale‘Harvest Moon ’ , zona 3–7 ) with the ruffled , semi - double blooms — and bright purple Allium .
- UPDATE : Lee and another helpful GPOD lector , Bob , did some digging and corroborate it is a “ fire rainbow ” AKA “ circumhorizon arc ” . For more information , ascertain out these article they shared:‘Fire Rainbows ’ and ‘ Sun Dogs’andCircumhorizon Arc or Iridescent Cloud ? *
