Looking at the beauty of each season
Today we ’re visiting with Fran Cohen in Rhode Island as she reflects on what the garden brings in every season of the year .
In the former daylight of 2021 I ’m stunned to see that some of my favoriteseed catalogshave already deal out of many varieties . I should n’t be surprised that people turn to the comfort of develop things in unmanageable , uncertain times . horticulture always give me consolation and hope .
Every season has its smasher . A winter sparkler tempest sheathes the coral bark maple(Acerpalmatum‘Sango kaku ’ , Zones 5–9 ) leg in crank and diamonds . I ’m grateful for the indoor gardening of come catalogs , bid list , to - do lists .
Then out of the bare , hard earth , daily miracles bring to beware a favored quote by Rainer Maria Rilke : “ It is spring again . The world is like a nestling that knows poems by kernel . ” A canine violet(Erythronium , Zones 4 – 9 ) reminds us to take care closely .

presently the fly-by-night spots are exuberant and green with maidenhair fern(Adiantumpedatum , Zones 3–8),Hosta , Asarum(wild powdered ginger , Zones 5–9 ) , andPulmonaria(lungwort , Zones 4–7 ) .
In summertime , the color that lead wild in the sun ( redClematis‘Niobe ’ , Zones 4–9 and an unknown white variety ) .
summertime ’s gloss is rivaled only by autumn ’s last hooray on coral bark maple andsourwood(Oxydendrum arboreum , Zones 5–9 ) . There are so many things to look frontward to in the garden .
