Finding peace in the garden
Today we ’re visiting with Kim Herdman in Williams Lake , British Columbia . We ’ve visited her beautiful garden before ( Gardening Through Intense weather condition ) . She ’s been going through a unmanageable prison term , but her garden has been a germ of solacement .
The last few year have thrown everything at the garden and liveliness . Michael yield to his disease in 2022 , which leave a hole in my warmheartedness . He was my gardening partner and another pair of hand to pee , or plan , or enjoy the pictures he so bed to take .
To help fill the void of Michael , I have a unexampled soulmate — Hamish ! He is keeping busy ensuring that all manner of living force is not in his soil ! He has worn a path by the side of the fencing chasingdeerand is keep the ever - grow universe ofrabbitsout . He also insure that this is a no - fly zone for thebirds ! Definitely takes his business seriously . I have to accept that the garden is not start to be all I want it to be with him in the family .

I was having trouble keep up with all the railway yard myself , so I recollect thatveggie boxeswould be helpful . Some kind friends helped build me three loge , and I think they are really going to be capital as I get into the vallecula of what to plant in them . Every yr it gets harder to know what will cope with the weather . I did find these box well-to-do towaterandweedlast year . I also think if I have to use shade cloth or netting , the box seat will be much less troublesome for me . The winter of 2022/23 was all over condition wise ; there was a long fall with no Robert Lee Frost , which helped me to get all thebulbs plant , as I was very slo - mo — still in recuperation mode from the rip coagulum of 2021 . One day I was plantingtulipsand the temperature was 20 ° C , and the next morning I woke up to – 15 ° C . The abrupt change make the demise of my hand - raised maple that was just start to offer much - needed spook to the raging yard . Also , theapple treesuffered fire blight , which keep coming back even afterpruning . So last summertime both trees were cut down .
The vacuum of the orchard apple tree tree is feel , but the area is still full of flowers .
Every year after the utmost temperature fluctuations we cogitate that there is going to be nothing coming up , and every yr the garden record us howresilient life is .

There are more and moreself - seedersthat plant themselves gayly everywhere . I am really becoming a devotee of the differentalliums , which flower for so long and do n’t ask for much ( they seem to be very steady-going and rugged ) as well as all the differentsedums , which are rugged as nails .
clime changeand all its effects keep throwing wrench . The recollective summer ofdroughtmade it necessary to spend lots of metre in the garden lachrymation . After the heat attic of 2021 , the grunge seems like it has been scorch of all its life , so it has been an on-going challenge to feed it withcompostand horsemanureand mulch that never seems to be enough .
But through all the challenge the garden stay on to be a beginning of peace , use , wellness , and communion with friends and strangers alike !
