If there is one thing we bask more than anything else , it is outdoor living . In fact , we live for it ! Whether working in the garden , planting flowers , mowing , grill out , drop a frisbee , or sitting on the back porch late at night after a prospicient day of work , you’re able to almost always find us outdoors , enjoy the bully outdoors .
make an outdoor living space require a deal of dirt to build up the hillside !
And with that making love of out-of-door inhabit in mind , our latest projection at the farm is taking shape . We call it , the “ Pavilion Project ” .

Creating an outdoor living space required a lot of dirt to build up the hillside!
A few years before building our house at the farm , we had convert a shield - in back porch at our erstwhile house into an outdoor living elbow room . We knocked out the quondam screen door walls , opened it up to the connected deck , and then turned the covered region into a living room . It permit us be outside in the rain or sun , and we did just that – every chance we got . We plainly loved that space !
We always knew that as soon as we could , we wanted to make an country just like it at the farm . Even perhaps , with a little outdoor kitchen to boot . After all , if you may corrode , cook , entertain , unwind and live alfresco , is there a downside ? !
The real challenge for us was to make the bodily structure set with the look and feel of the existing household and farm . Of naturally , we also needed to do it on a budget that worked for us . That meant doing as much of it ourselves as potential !

Outdoor Living – The Pavilion Project Design & Details
We really want the outdoor life way and kitchen area to sense like an extension of our back porch . But with a slop mound all around , we knew it would take a bit of workplace to make that encounter . When finish up , the full space will be about 30′ recollective and 16′ wide . We will cover a 16′ x 20′ portion of the sphere with a 6 billet heart-to-heart - sided marquee structure fromWeaver Barnscalled the Timber Ridge . It ’s rustic style and alloy roof actually match our house absolutely .
The 10′ x 16′ open airwave area that remains will be for the outdoor grillroom and kitchen . We ’ll practice left over cedar , galvanized metal and Isidor Feinstein Stone save from the house physical body for make that .

For the tops , we are run short to stream cheap household - made concrete rejoinder big top . We did the same for our b kitchen last year , and love the enduringness and expression . It ’s really cost - in effect too , with mixing your own bagged concrete , you may produce them for about $ 3 a square foot .
For the terrace floor , we ’ll expend reclaimed brick and pavers to match the existing terrace at the barn and pergola . ultimately , for the landscape gardening , we will use grasses and perennials split up from the subsist plants already in shoes around the farm . We actually started that process back in early March , splitting and potting up the plant we will postulate to have on hand when the area is finished and ready to establish .
Splitting and dividing are fantastically gentle ways to redeem with child money when it come to landscaping . We now have about 600 + plants around the farm , and all whole for free .

The completed pad waiting for the Timber Ridge Pavilion
We started a few hebdomad back by contain out our quondam trusty tape measure and staking off the area . It in reality brought back a lot of old memories for both Mary and myself . We did the same exact process for the barn , pergola , chicken cage , and last year , the house . I call back we both exist for the excitement of a labor as much as the satisfaction of completing it . We are always quick to say that we likely will never “ be done ” build the farm .

Next come the process of building up the sloping mound into a savourless , usable space . For that we needed dirt , and a fortune of it ! In fact , to be exact , it read about 13 garbage dump truck loads of it , and some pretty awesome grade work from our neighbor Craig to create a 20′ x 16′ planate basis . as luck would have it they were clearing off dirt for a basketball court . They needed a shoes to put the dirt , and we needed dirt . That is what you call a profits - profits !

Once the pad was in place , Craig helped us practise down and pour 6 concrete pier to secure the pavilion when it goes up . He has definitely been a life belt for this project !
Now all this left is to waitress for the Timber Ridge Pavilion to go up ! Weather permitting , that will be this coming workweek . And then it ’s time for us to get to work and lay the terrace brick , construct the kitchen frame and counter meridian , landscape painting , and someday of class , sit down alfresco and bask it !
We will keep you update on the mental process in the coming hebdomad . And one final greenback of appreciation – A big thank you to Mark and Beth for the gorgeous hanging basketball hoop exit on our back porch . It is beautiful ! We are blessed with great neighbor all around us !
