When it comes to keep rabbits out of our garden and flowerbeds , we never had much of a trouble . That is , until recently .
We embed our very first garden at the farm in 2011 , and there was not a single cony to be find . And with 100 % certainty , I can say we never encountered one until one fateful September day in 2015 .
We were walk along the fence line of our garden , and suddenly , a ball of pelt burst from underneath the heavy leaves of a hosta plant .

And so set out the steady invasion of the rabbits !
Everything in nature has a determination and balancing burden . When we first gardened at the farm in 2011 , there was a heavy population of brush wolf in the region .
The farm was also quite open at that period , so there were few places for rabbits to cover . In addition to the prairie wolf , we also had a much immature and active Jazzy ( our beloved fatal lab ) to patrol the area .

As we now head into garden season , all of that has commute . The coyotes are all but non - real thanks to more development , and an effort by local farmers to help control the population .
Our farm is also now filled with hundreds of Gunter Grass and plant that create the perfect asylum for furred lilliputian critters .
And last , but not least , Jazzy is now nearing 12 twelvemonth of years . At this point , she would much rather chase a few dreams in her rest than a lightning - quick rabbit .

And so it is that the rabbit population has manifold . They have damaged a few crops here and there . However , with a few limiting and put-on , we have handle to keep their wrong to a minimum .
