If there ’s one thing you should have it away about me , it ’s that I have a serious sweet tooth . I do n’t just mean that I like a dessert here and there : I mean I have adessert after every mealtype of sweetened tooth . That ’s why , when my mom and I decided to take a girls ’ trip to Waco , Texas , where Chip and Joanna Gaines have theirSilosproperty ( the Magnolia homebase ) , I acknowledge I had to judge the cupcakes at theSilos Baking Co. Little did I know , I would end up judge every flavor the bakehouse shit .

The Silos Baking Co. offers five class - round flavour — Cookies ‘ n Cream , Shiplap , Strawberries ‘ n Cream , Lemon Lavender , and The Chocolatier — plus two seasonal flavors . We chat the bakery in tardy May and strain their summertime flavour : Strawberry Lemonade and Orange Cream .

Because I wish to consider myself a sweet guru , I determined winner for not one , but multiple categories : best cake , best frosting , most aesthetically pleasing , and best overall cupcake ( consider it the Olympics of cupcake tasting ) . Plus , I made an ultimate ranking of the flavors from best to worst . Seven cupcakes , two lemonades , and one very full tummy later ,   here ’s my list of winners — and turkey — in each category .

The Best Cupcakes at Silos Baking Co.

Best Overall: The Chocolatier

I will be the first to acknowledge that I incline to tend more toward rich , chocolatey desserts over fruity ones . But even my mom ( who prefers fruity treats ) agreed that The Chocolatier was hands - down the best cupcake at the Silos Baking Co. The fudgy chocolate cake was perfectly balance by the light and mousey chocolate icing , a deep brown - lover ’s aspiration .

First Runner-Up: Orange Cream

This tone shocked me . As I previously mentioned , I am not a fruity dessert person , and I have never been a fan of orange flavourer . ( I dislike it so much as a child that I did n’t eat anything orange until I was 10 . ) But I was pleasantly storm by thisorange creamcupcake ! It takes exactly like an orange tree push - up — the kind you would eat as a kid by the pond on raging , summertime days . Maybe it was the common sense of nostalgia or maybe my tastebuds suppurate , but I really enjoyed this cupcake and would well purchase it again .

Second Runner-Up: Cookies ‘N Cream

According to the summertime 2024 issue ofMagnolia Journal , Cookies ’ N Cream is Joanna ’s preferent crank cream flavor . ( I ca n’t help but enquire if that ’s why this classic flavor capture a spotlight in the bakery ’s year - round card . ) No matter the reasonableness , I ’m felicitous this cupcake is here to stay . The ice was delicious , and I appreciate the cookie rat in the frosting . Thiscookies and creamcupcake is a great choice for someone who likes cocoa , but does n’t need anything too heavy .

Fourth Place: Shiplap

This patty ’s name is a nod to one of Magnolia ’s most - used aim elements : shiplap . maintain with its namesake , this vanilla - on - vanilla cupcake was abstemious and classic . You ca n’t go wrong with a vanilla cupcake , but compare to the more exciting smell , it fall a bit monotonous , hence its middle - of - the - pack ranking .

Fifth Place: Strawberry Lemonade

I was delirious to try this cupcake becausestrawberry lemonadeis a quintessential summer relish . Unfortunately , the 2d summertime smell did not pack the same punch as the first . This cupcake was threatening on the lemonade , and light on the strawberry . While it was a lovely lemon cake , I missed the strawberry too much to rank it any higher .

Sixth Place: Strawberries ‘N Cream

I wanted to love this cupcake , I really did , but it just missed the mark . Again , the strawberry mark feel was extremely subtle , almost that of a vanilla extract cake . While the frosting was toothsome ( and there was peck of frost ) , the cake was a disappointment .

Seventh Place: Lemon Lavender

I was hesitant to try out this look because I would normally never range a flavor like it , and — don’t hate me — but my hunch was right . I did n’t taste any lavender , and I was not a fan of the seed in the patty . in the end , it was a drylemon bar .

Superlatives

Best Cake: The Chocolatier

Is anyone surprised ? This chocolate bar might be the good I ’ve ever had . It wasmoist and fudgy , and it did n’t leave me with a stomachache . If I did n’t need to render the other six cupcakes at the Silos Baking Co. , I would have drop dead back to leverage ( and devour ) a second of The Chocolatier !

Best Frosting: Strawberries ’N Cream

While the cupcake as a whole lack the mark , thebuttercream frostingon this cupcake was delicious . It was light , airy , and sweet without being too much . When trying all of the flavors , I continually went back for more tastes of this frost , almost using it as a palette cleanser . If thestrawberry cakehad been as good as the ice , this strawberry and cream cupcake would have given The Chocolatier a run for its money .

Best Aesthetic: Orange Cream

Not only did this cupcake taste like the perfect summer day , it calculate like one , too . With bright orangeness cake , classic white icing , and small orangish sprinkles , this cupcake look exactly like how we all want to feel during the tiptop of summer : playfulness , bright , and joyful .
