I ’ve been think for a long fourth dimension about how I could express my gardening exuberance in a tattoo .
I ’ve never gotten a tattoo before since it always seemed a piece garish ; however , I count on something botanical would work .
Heck , it could even be classy . botanic prints are all the madness in interior innovation – why not in tattoos ?

The more I recollect about getting a plant - related tattoo , the more I liked the idea .
My big dilemma , of course of study , was – which industrial plant should I feature ?
I toyed around with chaya , though that could be mistake for a maple leaf and I did n’t need folk to think I was Canadian .

I also think about sweet potatoes , figs , mulberry or even a Chickasaw plum tree illustration with the Latin name beneath it .
TheFlorida Food Forestsloquat logotype was also in the race but I adjudicate against it . I ’m always switch my commercial enterprise ideas and did n’t need to get trapped in what might later seem to be a unfit decision .
Fortunately , a enceinte idea came to me at last … and it happened where many of my unspoilt thought go far : outdoors amongst my plants .
As I was wander through the solid food forest last week and control out all the young outgrowth , I almost tripped over the dais of one of my multi - twelvemonth - old cassava plant life and then notice the lush unexampled growth coming up from the land .
I thought , “ Man … I love these plants ! ”
And then it hit me : cassava starch !
That was it !
It was the first perennial veggie I ever spring up gravely , plus it ’s just a lot of merriment to develop .
I made my decision – and yesterday I rend the trigger !
CHECK IT OUT !
Is n’t that majuscule ? Rob ( my tattoo artist ) did a killer occupation on the inside information … it almost looks like you could pick the foliage powerful off my arm .
When I work down to the tattoo place one of my champion recommended ( thank you , Joel ! ) , I figured they ’d have no idea what a cassava leaf looked like .
Imagine my surprisal when I saw it featured in many of their designs .
It was n’t like there was just a few tiny images in a book , either – cassava foliage excogitation were EVERYWHERE .
There was a picture of one gallon with casava leaves all over her back , express by fly cherubs … there was another one where a caterpillar was smoking a hookah while model on a huge cassava foliage ( believably an after - dinner smoke … my favorite hookah tobacco tastes like apples , though who cognise which flavor cat prefer ) ; there was even one guy who had a picture of a mammoth cassava leaf floating above a sundown .
Seriously – there ’s a LOT of casava passion going on . I honestly had no approximation that the tattoo crowd was that into growing tropic staple root crops . It really give me a mess of Leslie Townes Hope for the future of perennial veg in our nation – I ’m go to have to get connect with the local tat conventions and see if I can mark some cuttings of dissimilar varieties we can test on the homestead .
I bed – getting a tattoo is a big batch , and maybe I ’m an changeling for doing it … but I do n’t really suppose so . I ’m proud of my cassava plants and am quite beaming I get hold a botanic mental image I can live with for the rest of my life .
I hope you dig it as much as I do . genus Manihot esculentaforever !
