There are plenty ofspecial types of producethat do n’t get the tending they deserve . Cucuzza ( pronounced ku - KOO - za ) is one of those special vegetables . This plant is a member of theCucurbitaceaefamily , but is more like a gourd , botanically speaking .

A popular veggie with a long story in southerly Italy , cucuzza would be a fun add-on to next year ’s garden . These long , Hydra - similar fruit develop on vines that need to be trellis to let them get to their 2 - 3 understructure duration . The light greenish cutis cover creamy white flesh that has a slightly nutty taste .

Like other summer squash rackets , cucuzzas can be eaten at any leg of maturity . When new and tender , the seeds are pocket-sized and edible ; however , older fruit have large , uneatable seed that need to be removed before cookery .
