I am passionate about building an eco - friendly lifestyle one diminutive step at a metre with my two kiddiwinks , my married man and our pile of chickens on a plot of ground of acres in Herefordshire . I ’ve always been cognizant of the wallop us humans have on major planet earth and it is n’t a good one . Working in food manufacturing has opened my eyes to how unsustainable our food supply chain has become . Food miles , droughts , chemical substance employment , waste and overweening plastic promotion all seem out of controller , and so over the years I have applied my Passion of Christ for sustainable living to my garden .
I ’ve come so far from my first attempts at nurturing tomato plant in a grobag . I now develop immense quantities of yield and vegetables , preserving as much as possible . I no longer use any pesticides or herbicide and I make all of our own plant provender . I avoid buying plastic wherever potential whether its new plant pots or promotional material . I economise semen and attend seed swop and try out to make best use of all the resources my garden has to offer , reprocess or repurposing old materials where potential .
Growing my own food and flowers in a sustainable means has involved follow an ethos that can be summed up by the 7 R ’s of dissipation direction , which are refuse , reprocess , repurpose , refurbish , decoct , rethink and recycle . So rather than pass for the pocketbook , and driving to the garden centre or making purchases online , I stop and opine what I can work with instead .
Gardening in a more sustainable path is better for the environment , reduces our carbon footprint as well as encouraging biodiversity . It also economize so much money and feels implausibly adept in the process knowing you are doing your bit !
