Gardening
I have antecedently wittered about redesigning borderline in our garden . My last post was on thedesign , which I finally trust to paper . I have been interfering growing waaaay too many plant . Can you really have too many ? Evidence for the prosecution , 60 primrose japonica ‘ miller ’s ruby ’ develop away . I need 15 , absolute tops . grounds for the defense , umm , ‘ cos more flora ? ?
Anyhow , last weekend I planted out Border 1 , fulfil twin objective lens of easing my capacity problem and more importantly achieving the intended effect in the garden .

I include the design for Border 1 again here for cite .
I first extend the mete , comprehend and mulched it , so it is good and ready to get plants . There are several existing plant that will remain in place . I did remove a few alchemilla mollis as they were in the room . I had also intended to stab up the rosemary but in fact I make up one’s mind to just prune the front of the bush forth , leaving a bit of height and some bulk at the back of the border
hatful of space , and it postulate fill . Generally , I have managed to stick to the planting plan . I start out at the left with the aubrieta and dianthus , and moved across to the rightfield . No struggle plan survive contact with foe , and I did make a couple of adjustments as I was in the midst of it . The Monarda are n’t quite ready , I want to wait for them to bulk up a bit and harden off properly , so I ’ve left a infinite for them . Or I think I did , the surrounding plants may have other melodic theme . In a further departure from the architectural plan , I decided not to plant the foxgloves in their point spot , partly due to height , part due to actually not having the room – the surrounding planting invaded their space . alternatively I put them in the back right corner , next to the genus Cotinus . I think they ’ll be felicitous there , I can get them self - seed there , and the height will be fine too . The only downside is I now have to find a place for the cornus midwinter fire that I had plan to plant there . hmm …

Border planning
I ’m always faintly disappointed by a recently planted seam , particularly when the plants are all young . They look a little lose at ocean in all that quad . They will of track grow on quickly . I ’m go to keep a photo diary of all three borders once they ’re up and bleed , I ’m looking forward to seeing them establish and hopefully flower . Next year is likely to be more impressive than this twelvemonth .
I ’ll be back before long with an update on borders 2 and 3 .
