Today ’s photos are from Mary Anderson , who says,“I have process for 23 year as the recreation therapist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto , Ontario , in the Geriatric Day Hospital . During that time I have design and built a raised wheelchair- and walker - approachable garden for the patients of the programme to apply .
“ It has all been reach through donations , Tennessean , and family members who helped build the bodily structure and hardscaping . Over the years I have added more paseo , a small water garden , and a 4 - holed putting greenish . The infirmary ’s chapel and synagogue mirrored my design to make an extra planter for us to expend , as well as a 2d arbor .
“ The patient plant seeds indoors and then transfer them to the raised garden . We also append with flora donate , if required . This class marked the 40th day of remembrance of the Geriatric Day Hospital , so the affected role , volunteers , and I worked diligently to have a lovely show for this celebration .

“ The planters are constructed out of insistence treated lumber , so as not to rot . They are delineate , so no chemicals leek out to the dirt . The raised garden are mainly yearbook , and the lower bed are perennial which have been divided from my gardens at home and through contribution . The two big pear-shaped planters were left over from one of the infirmary ’s addition , there were too many of them for the front lobby , so opine who begged for them . They are perfect for this secret garden which is enclose on all four sides ( so it has a snatch of a micro - climate ) .
“ The faculty of this large hospital come to seat and pillow in this arena when they involve to recharge their battery , as do the patients of the program . Every fall we have a pesto company with the basil the patients have grown from ejaculate . We also attend the tomatoes they have grown .
“ The veteran universe at the infirmary come from across the street and use the putt unripe upon occasion . The putt William Green is made of an astro turf , which is downhearted maintenance and easy for walkers and wheelchairs to operate on . The patients have it off working in this garden , as the majority of them are unable to get at a garden now . ”

What an amazing garden , Mary , on so many levels ! Kudos to you , your volunteers , and the affected role . You ’ve all create a beautiful space and experience .
